Name: Deep Talks: Art and Engineering at South Dakota Mines
Date: November 9, 2023
Time: 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM MST
Event Description:
Creation of pottery and ceramics is as ancient as human settlement, and minerals found in the Black Hills have been used to make ceramics for hundreds of years. Dr. Katrina Donovan, a lecturer in the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering at South Dakota Mines, is among a group of faculty who received a National Science Foundation grant for the ongoing Art & Engineering (A+E) program at Mines. The A+E program links the creative process with science and engineering education. Part of A+E at Mines challenges students to process and use local minerals to create ceramic artworks. This Deep Talks event includes hands-on activities for all ages that tie materials science and engineering concepts used in art creation.
