For immediate release: Position Opening at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center
LEAD, SD – The board of directors of the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center (SLHVC) & Lead Area Chamber of Commerce (LACC) is seeking a dynamic individual for the position of SLHVC Executive Director (ED).
The SLHVC ED leads all activities associated with the SLHVC in support of its mission to, in a financially-sustainable way, to communicate the story of Lead’s past, present, and future and to communicate the story of the Sanford Underground Research Facility and its science to the public. The ED reports to the SLHVC/LACC Board of Directors and works closely with the LACC ED to ensure SLHVC activities are well-aligned with Lead’s tourism and economic development efforts. The ED actively supports advancement of partnerships with the South Dakota Science and Technology Authority (SDSTA) and Black Hills State University (BHSU) to further Visitor Center programs.
The applicant should be a proven team leader with outstanding written and verbal communication skills; show a demonstrated experience in financial operations, group sales and visitor management, partnership development, volunteerism, fundraising efforts, and organizational management. A bachelor’s degree in a field related to business, public administration or related to the SLHVC mission is preferred. Experience in lieu of a degree will be considered if applicant has at least 5 years of experience in similar operations. Knowledge and experience with Excel and QuickBooks is a plus.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license and complete a background check. Preference will go to a candidate with familiarity with Lawrence County area businesses, industry, education, media, and SLHVC/LACC constituencies. This is a full-time salaried position. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
