SNOWMOBILE POKER RUN – 9:00 AM 

Join us for Winterfest 2018 Steel Wheel Poker Run! Lead is one of the country’s top snowmobiling destinations! We have over 365 miles of interconnected, groomed trails within the Black Hills National Forest waiting to be explored. Participants have 5  hours to return to the designated ending point. Your time between stops does not matter – enjoy the ride – but play safe, friends! The Best poker hand wins: cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place hands. Awards take place at the Claim Jumpers at 2 pm; participants must be present to receive any winnings!  Preregister at the Lead Area Chamber of Commerce or the day of at the Steel Wheel Campground. $20 Registration Fee for 5 cards, 5 card draw

KIDZ ZONE – 10:00 am-6:00 pm 

Let the kiddos warm up and enjoy some fun activities too!! Kidz Zone will offer cookie decorating, hot chocolate, craft creating area, face painting, reading nook, and a play area.

SNOW YOGA WITH SARAH CANIDA – 10:00 AM 

A fun way to combine being outside while practicing yoga. Focusing on breath control, meditation and asanas / postures, and made for all levels – come breathe in that crisp mountain air, soak up some Vitamin D and stretch out those muscles on the observation deck at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center. This event is only $10 and cost includes essential oils. Register at the Chamber!

WINTERFEST GAMES – REGISTRATION AT NOON, RACE AT 2:00 PM 

From the guys who brought you the Homestake Trail, Snow Jam series and Summit 5k – Northern Hills Recreation Association Presents (drum roll, please) … WINTERFEST GAMES! (collective group cheers!)

This event will be a fun race on Lead Main Street starting in front of Bob’s Silver Star/Mining Museum and ending at the Stampmill. It will comprise three disciplines: Fat-tire bike, Snow shoes and Skiing. This will be a relay-style team event.  More details to follow.


CHILI + BREW FEST WITH THROWBACK SKIWEAR PAR-TAY – 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM  

Let’s rally the snow!  Don your retro skiwear, neon spandex, and old-school onesies for the party of the season. Anyone decked out in rad or retro skiwear can walk the runway for our fashion show at 1pm, a special prize to the winner! Enjoy some friendly, local competition while the best chili creators duke it out over some cold, local crafted brews. Let’s bring on those positive vibes for the ski season and raise a glass for our love of snow – we guarantee, this is a rad party you won’t want to miss!

SNOWSHOE HIKE ON ENGLEWOOD TRAIL – 1:00 PM TO 3:00 PM 

Discover the joy of winter and the freedom of snowshoeing! During this outing, you’ll learn snowshoeing techniques, ascending and descending hills, snow hazard awareness, and winter preparedness. Don’t have snowshoes? We provide snowshoes, snowshoe poles and professional instruction on proper use of equipment, to make every trip a success.

FLANNEL & FLAME: A COURTYARD PARTY – 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM 

Don we now our plaid apparel. Grab your flannel and join for this adults-only outdoors party with live guitar music, hot toddies, cold beer, and hot chocolate/apple cider. Dress warm, but trust us, this will be the hottest spot to watch the parade! Check out the facebook event here!

COMMUNITY SOUP FEED – 4:30 PM 

This event is a WINTERFEST staple. Join the Rod and Gun Club for their annual Soup Feed. Cost is $7 and the price includes the choice of multiple varieties of soup! The perfect way to warm up before the parade!

WINTER’S FAT CLASSIC – 5:00 PM 

This is a “night” race of 24 miles that will begin at 5:00 pm. This will be a unique racing experience so be ready for winter riding conditions! Riders will begin on Main Street in Deadwood, SD under the arch. Many amazing historical characters have walked in the valley you will be riding in! There will be a neutral start over the cobblestone streets leading riders to the beginning of the Mickelson Trail. This is where racing begins!! You will be on groomed trail until you reach Lead, SD. There will be a mandatory “hold your position” section for rider safety for ~1 mile coming through downtown Lead, SD. Racing can commence once riders reach the trail system again. The race will end at the Mickelson Trailhead in Deadwood. The course will be well marked.
There will be a hot chocolate “aid” station (there will also be water) that you will pass by twice, once at approximately mile 10.5 and again at mile 17.5. When you get to the aid station the second time, at that point riders will cross over highway 85 to reach the groomed Mickelson Trail towards Lead. This will take you to main street Lead to the traffic light intersection. Here you will take a right and head down historic main street for one mile. You will take a left on Grandview St to the dog park. This is the trailhead for the Homestake Trail. There will be volunteers here to make sure you find the trailhead. You will ride the Homestake Trail for 3.3 miles and then take a left towards the Mickelson Trail. From that point, it is a quarter mile sprint to the finish line!

Awards ceremony, raffle, after party:
After the race, riders will be invited back to the Grand for the after party and awards ceremony. Food, beer, and music will be provided as a part of your race entry! Music will begin at 7:30pm with awards ceremony beginning at 8:00pm. Raffle for swag will be after the awards ceremony. Awards will be hand crafted by the Mind Blown Studio at the Pump House and given to the following categories:
*top three men 39 and under
*top three men 40 and over
*top three ladies

BLACK HILLS ENERGY PARADE OF LIGHTS – 6:00 PM 

Prepare to be dazzled, people. Our beloved Winterfest parade is back, continuing a longtime tradition, this ahh-amazing display of floats decked out in glimmering, festive lights cruising the main street is a must-see.

YOGA & SPIRITS WITH SARAH CANIDA – 7:00 pm 

Bringing yoga to the bar! Winterfest’s yoga beer classes are all about community.
Join yoga instructor Sarah Canida for an hour-long class at Greenfield Pub, where you’ll be able to reward yourself with a beer after sweating it out for 60 minutes. The $15 ticket includes a yoga class plus one drink, but feel free to stick around for the parade, fireworks and music afterwards to continue your Winterfest 2018 party..

COMMUNITY BONFIRE – Following the Fireworks

Here’s your chance to experience the serenity of winter in a whole new way! Get toasty with us during our annual community bonfire!  Enjoy Coca and S’more Station sponsored by the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center.

Toss your Christmas tree! Drop off your holiday tree at the burn pile located in the parking lot of the Visitor Center between December 26 and January 26, 2018.
