TO ART AND BEYOND by Susan Frost and Valerie Kavanaugh When a group of bored and disconnected students arrive at an art museum for a class field trip, they are surprised to meet up with magic and mayhem. Goats and bears, screams and flowers step out of their paintings and come to life before their very eyes! The students encounter paintings and sculptures as they never have before and learn there is so much more to art than first meets the eye. The art used in this extremely creative play consists of eight masterpieces: Rodin’s The Thinker, Degas’s Little Dancer of Fourteen Years, Munch’s The Scream, Wood’s American Gothic, Homer’s Two Guides, Chagall’s I and the Village, Mondrian’s Broadway Boogie-Woogie and Picasso’s Hands with Flowers. A DRAGON IN THE MIX by Sue Ann Gunn In one large palace, combine a queen, her mother, ladies-in-waiting and assorted princesses. Let simmer. That’s the recipe our four mischievous fairies — Rumor, Gossip, Hearsay and Innuendo — are cooking up in this witty fairy tale spoof. After the fairy foursome add a dragon to the mix, they have to either find a hero to slay the beast or satiate it... and legend has it that dragons like to eat princesses! Meanwhile, bored of the pampered princess life, the queen’s three daughters set out to see what they can do. When the fairies toss three princes into their concoction, they’re cooking up quite a meal! Support for the HHOH is provided in part by the City of Lead, and the Adams Mastrovich Family Foundation.
