BRIEF - The Gift Shop Manager (GSM) will have a passion for Lead, its history, future and tourism. The GSM will invest in our organization through building and developing the retail and facility operations and programming at the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center (SLHVC). The GSM will report directly to the ED. 

 

DUTIES - 

  • All Gift Shop management including: Hiring additional staff to run the shift shop, daily management of staff, creating staff schedules, ordering, displaying, promotions, stocking, researching new items, cleaning.

  • All aspects of Customer service: maintaining excellent standards, resolving complaints, maintaining the reputation of the store, greeting guests and answering questions as needed.

  • Financial duties include: reconciling cash drawer, making deposits, counting donation boxes, monthly reporting, entering purchase orders into Quickbooks online and assisting the Executive Director with all other financials and creating the yearly budgets.

  • All aspects of the facility upkeep: including rental bookings, cleaning, booking service sub contractors.

  • Assisting with all aspects of marketing the SLHVC including social media maintenance, website updating, creating promotional materials, choosing advertising buys.

  • Working with Visit Lead concierge desk to help guests stay informed and excited about Lead.

  • Programming: Planning various events with the ED, promotion and execution of events.

  • Other duties may be assigned as needed by the ED.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Previous retail experience and proven experience in a managerial position

  • A business/financial degree is helpful but not required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Reliable transportation to and from work. 

  • Unwavering honesty and integrity.

  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance. We ask the gift shop staff to dress in a uniform. You are welcome to wear the polo shirt, but as a manager you are also welcome to dress in business appropriate attire. We ask that you maintain a well groomed appearance.

  • You are always ready and willing to meet the public, with a positive attitude and upbeat demeanor. 

  • Our organization runs a very tight budget and it is expected that you will help meet the budget goals and keep all expenses in line with the budget. 

  • We will need weekend flexibility from you, including working holidays and rotating weekends (or some equivalent) with the staff in the high tourism season. 

 

EXPECTATIONS

Though we cannot require you to do anything when you are not at work, we hope that you understand that you are working in a public facing organization and for the public. What you say in your time at work and in your free time will and does reflect on our organization (particularly in a small town) and we hope that you will keep this in mind when you are both online or out and about. 

 

DETAILS

Hours: 30-40 hours/week to be set by Executive Director (ED) and employee + various evenings and other special events including most major holidays (busy days in tourism). 

Pay: DOE

Benefits: We do not offer benefits, though we attempt to make up for that in a certain amount of flexibility.
