TITLE:  Planner
RESPONSIBLE/REPORTING TO:  Planning/Survey Manager
PROJECT LOCATION:  This position is located at the main office, 420 W Main Street Lead, SD (605) 954-1600.
ROLE:  TMI is looking for a Planner to join the onsite project team. Reporting directly to the Planning/Survey Manager, your primary responsibility will be to work closely with our underground Operations and surface Maintenance teams by implementing mine and maintenance planning initiatives for the project as well as to work with the Schedulers, Engineers and Miners. This position will focus on coordinating the production needs of the mining operations with the maintenance and repair requirements of the equipment. Our ideal candidate has a strong mining background with expertise in mining/construction planning software and underground mining methods and equipment.
  1. Collaborate with the project’s Schedulers, Engineers, the Operations team and Safety team in provision of mining, materials and equipment planning support.
  2. Work with all aspects of mine planning, scheduling, engineering and subcontractors.
  3. Using the application of proven planning principles, participate within the project engineering team to develop planning packages at the level of detail required for the Operations team to execute and for successful project completion.
  4. Produce high quality work products for both internal and external clients; ensure planning packages meet standards, codes, practices and contract requirements.
  5. Ensure compliance of work products with all standards for Safety, Environmental and Quality Control.
  6. Interpret drawings and specifications; gain comprehensive understanding of work scopes.
  7. Develop and implement an effective maintenance planning program for all mining equipment and mine operational electrical infrastructure at the project site.
  8. Develop and implement a strong maintenance business process, including Predictive Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance programs, and equipment maintenance Best Practices.
  9. Set priorities and then plan and schedule all major equipment repairs and overhauls.
  10. Manage logistics and oversee the erection, disassembly, assembly, and commissioning of mining equipment.
  11. Develop and oversee maintenance budgeting activities and analyze maintenance costs as necessary.
  12. Develop and promote a continuous improvement philosophy within the mine and maintenance groups and with contractors and vendors.
  13. Embrace a strong commitment to safety and environmental protection as top priorities, and ensure compliance with all corporate, governmental and site safety and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
  14. Support safety-based and performance-based maintenance staff, including mechanics and electricians.
  15. Identify, encourage, and manage training requirements/opportunities for employees. Work closely with the training, safety, and environmental groups to ensure that training requirements are being met.
  16. Stay abreast of industry best practices, as well as technological, state-of-the-art advances for equipment maintenance and repair.
  17. Look for opportunities to improve employee safety and awareness. Review and communicate risk management situations. Lead by example by wearing correct personal protective equipment (PPE).
  18. Make recommendations to supervisor in relation to measuring and improving production methods, employee and equipment performance/efficiency, working conditions, and the quality of the work produced.
  19. Participate in meetings to update the project team, as required.
  20. Support the Engineering team, as requested.
  21. Other duties as requested by the supervisor.
SCHEDULE: The position is expected to work a 10-12 hour shift on a 16:10 schedule.
  1. Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, construction management or related discipline.
  2. 2+ years of experience in the mining or construction industry.
  3. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
  4. Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, and mining/construction planning software.
  5. Basic working knowledge of mining practices and construction techniques.
  6. Organized and efficient as well as having a methodical approach to work practices; ability to prioritize multiple daily tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  7. Team player with the ability to work independently to meet daily deadlines, goals and objectives.
  8. Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects, demands and deadlines.
  9. Client-focused with a passion for ensuring the highest level of quality is produced.
  10. Highly motivated with a demonstrated desire for excellence and taking initiative.
  11. Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.
  12. Good physical condition; ability to stoop, sit, stand, lift, or be on feet in an underground mining environment for extended periods of time.
  13. Valid driver’s license.
  14. Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt.
  15. Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  16. Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
