TITLE:  Engineer
PROJECT LOCATION:  This position is located at the main office, 420 W Main Street Lead, SD (605) 954-1600.

ROLE: Thyssen Mining is looking for an Engineer to join the onsite project team. Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to work closely with our underground operations and surface maintenance teams by implementing engineering and design efforts and various planning initiatives for the project as well as to work with the Schedulers, Planners, and Surveyors. This position will also be focused on preparing submittals, RFIs, reports, and other engineering documents.  Our ideal candidate has a strong mining background with expertise in engineering software and underground mining methods. 
  1. Collaborate with the project’s Schedulers, Engineers, the Operations team, and Safety team in the provision of mining, materials, and equipment planning support.
  2. Work with all aspects of mine planning, scheduling, engineering, and subcontractors.
  3. Produce high-quality work products for both internal and external clients; ensure planning packages meet standards, codes, practices, and contract requirements.
  4. Ensure compliance of work products with all standards for Safety, Environmental, and Quality Control.
  5. Interpret drawings and specifications; gain a comprehensive understanding of work scopes.
  6. Develop and implement an effective maintenance planning program for all mining equipment and mine operational electrical infrastructure at the project site.
  7. Develop and oversee maintenance budgeting activities and analyze maintenance costs as necessary.
  8. Develop and promote a continuous improvement philosophy within the mine and maintenance groups and with contractors and vendors.
  9. Embrace a strong commitment to safety and environmental protection as top priorities, and ensure compliance with all corporate, governmental, and site safety and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations.
  10. Support safety-based and performance-based maintenance staff, including mechanics and electricians.
  11. Look for opportunities to improve employee safety and awareness. Review and communicate risk management situations. Lead by example by wearing correct personal protective equipment (PPE).
  12. Make recommendations to supervisors in relation to measuring and improving production methods, employee and equipment performance/efficiency, working conditions, and the quality of the work produced.
  13. Participate in meetings to update the project team, as required.
  14. Support the Engineering team, as requested.
  15. Other duties as requested by the supervisor.
SCHEDULE: The position is expected to work a 10-12 hour shift on a 16:10 schedule.
•    Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in mining or civil engineering.
•    2+ years of experience in the mining or construction industry.
•    Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
•    Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, and engineering design software (AutoCAD, Vulcan and/or MineSight).
•    Basic working knowledge of rock excavations, hard rock mining practices, and concrete construction techniques.
•    Theoretical knowledge of underground mine design, mine engineering, drilling and blasting, backfilling, ventilation, scheduling, and surveying is an advantage.
•    Organized and efficient as well as having a methodical approach to work practices; ability to prioritize multiple daily tasks assigned by the supervisor.
•    Team player with the ability to work independently to meet daily deadlines, goals, and objectives.
•    Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects, demands, and deadlines.
•    Client-focused with a passion for ensuring the highest level of quality is produced.
•    Highly motivated with a demonstrated desire for excellence and taking initiative.
•    Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time.
•    Good physical condition; ability to stoop, sit, stand, lift, or be on feet in an underground mining environment for extended periods of time.
•    Valid driver’s license.
•    Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt.
•    Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
•    Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
