TITLE:   Accountant
RESPONSIBLE/REPORTING TO:   Project Controls Manager
PROJECT LOCATION:    This position is located at the main office, 420 W Main Street Lead, SD (605) 954-1600
ROLE:   TMI is looking for an Accountant to join the onsite project team. With limited supervision, this position will manage all cost accounting aspects of the project and coordinate the work of Procurement, Document Control, and Engineering teams and provide data to an international corporate office.  This position will support the Project Controls Manager and frontline leaders to deliver detailed cost analysis across the project. Critical to this role will be the effective management of all data collected from various individuals and sources.   These activities will be conducted within generally accepted accounting principles and TMI policies and procedures. Previous experience in the industrial, mining, and/or construction industries is preferred. The Cost Accountant will report directly to the Project Controls Manager.
  1. Project delivery of all cost accounting analysis and detailed monthly reports.
  2. Assess project material usage, personnel hours, equipment hours, and costs in comparison to the budget.
  3. Assist the Project Controls Manager with reporting and participation in meetings with the Thyssen Mining Senior Management.
  4. Coordination of reporting to the corporate office.
  5. Responsible for various accounting functions as assigned on the project.
  6. Assisting the Project Controls group including Procurement, Commercial and Document Control, as follows:
    1. Coordinate all activities related to the monitoring and control of the project.
    2. Support implementation of the project quality plan to ensure timely and cost-effective project tracking, execution, performance, and monitoring.
    3. Evaluate weekly progress measurement and capture progress of the project activities.
    4. Manage monthly progress payment certifications.
    5. Detect deviations and suggest project adjustments.
  7. Assist Project Controls activities with Project Scheduling and Project Planning.
  8. Assist the project team’s preparation of periodic internal and external progress reports.
  9. Ensure all data related to the project is properly managed and reported.
  10. Review project estimating efforts to ensure continuity with project baseline.
  11. Assist in maintaining and reporting on the project’s goals for Small Business Enterprise procurement for and participation of subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors, in accordance with the project’s approved Small Business Subcontracting Plan.
  12. Review the project contract and ensure that all of the contract conditions (invoicing, project tracking and reporting, change management, project closeout and, turnover) are applied and fulfilled.
  13. Assist in change management system in compliance with contract conditions and TMI’s procedures; monitor and enforce the change management system for assigned projects.
  14. Produce custom reports per request of the client or internal management.
  15. Other duties as requested by the Project Controls Manager.
SCHEDULE: The position is expected to work a 10-12 hour shift on a 5:2 schedule
  1. A minimum of 5 years of related experience is preferred.
  2. College and/or university degree in accounting or finance is required.
  3. Extensive experience in cost accounting
  4. Demonstrated ability in proactively building relationships with key project stakeholders.
  5. Ability to review and develop new processes and streamline transactional activities.
  6. Ability to manage the preparation of financial information.
  7. Strong ability to work effectively independently and with all levels of the project team
  8. Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  9. Able to use a variety of computer software, including word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications; expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel and intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat.
  10. Detail-oriented and customer-focused.
  11. Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects.
  12. Applied knowledge of cost accounting/cost control.
  13. Able to gain comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the organization's operations, policies and procedures, and personnel.
  14. Expert organizational skills in order to handle multiple tasks within a demanding mining construction job site environment with a strong emphasis on quality and timeliness.
  15. Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
